The ton has a birth chart. Here is what it says.
By Gina — GinaStars
I started watching Bridgerton for the costumes and the drama. I stayed because every single character is doing something astrologically specific that I could not stop noticing.
The more I watched the more I kept thinking this person is a textbook Scorpio. That one is doing the most Virgo thing I have ever seen on television. And that one over there is Sagittarius energy in a corset.
So I did what any reasonable astrology person does. I went through all twelve signs and matched them to the characters whose energy fits most precisely. Not the character you would want to be. The character whose way of moving through the world matches how your sign actually operates.
Some of these will make you laugh. Some will make you uncomfortably quiet. All of them are accurate.
Aries — Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings
Simon is not the most obvious Aries on the surface. He is controlled and aristocratic and does not run into rooms shouting. But underneath that he is the most Aries character in the whole show.
He makes a decision — I will never marry, I will never have children, I will not continue my father’s line — and executes it with the total commitment of a fixed Aries who has decided something and will not be moved. He does not dither. He does not reconsider. He acts first and deals with consequences later.
The Aries shadow is also very present. His stubbornness costs him enormously. His refusal to revisit a decision made in pain nearly destroys the best thing in his life. He pushes Daphne away with the same force he used to push his father’s expectations away. He does not always know the difference between protecting himself and burning something down.
But when Simon loves he loves the way Aries loves. Completely. Physically. Without holding back. He does not do things halfway and that includes his feelings.
Taurus — Daphne Bridgerton
Daphne is the Taurus of the Bridgerton family and I mean that as the highest compliment.
She knows what she wants. She has always known. She wants a love match. A real one. Not convenience or status or the best offer available. She holds that knowing even when the world around her is pushing her toward the practical choice. She is patient about it in a way that other signs would not manage.
The Taurus stubbornness is also very much present. Once Daphne decides something she is decided. Her methods for getting what she wants are not always gentle. She is not passive. She is a fixed earth sign who waits for what she actually wants rather than settling, and then moves toward it with complete determination when it arrives.
She also builds things. A home. A family. A life that has warmth and beauty and the specific quality of abundance that Taurus creates when they are operating at their best. She does not want excitement. She wants something real that lasts. That is the most Taurus sentence I could write about a fictional character.
Gemini — Colin Bridgerton
Colin is the Gemini Bridgerton and he spends most of the series proving it.
He is charming and curious and genuinely interested in everyone he meets. He travels. He writes. He has more versions of himself depending on context than any other Bridgerton sibling. The Colin at home is different from the Colin abroad which is different from the Colin who finally decides to mean something.
The Gemini challenge is all over his arc. He talks before he thinks. He says the thing about Penelope at the ball — the devastating careless thing — without understanding what it costs because he was not paying attention to the full picture. Gemini does not always see how their words land in real time. They are already thinking about the next thing.
His love story is very Gemini too. He falls for the person who has been seeing him clearly and talking to him honestly for years. The connection is intellectual first. It starts in letters and conversations. Gemini falls through the mind before they fall through the heart.
Cancer — Penelope Featherington
Penelope is the most Cancer character in the entire Bridgerton universe and I have thought about this for longer than I should probably admit.
She sees everything and says almost nothing. She absorbs. She observes. She understands people deeply and then goes home and writes about them under a pseudonym because she cannot say what she actually thinks as herself. The Cancer interior life is enormous and almost entirely hidden from the outside world.
She also loves with her whole self in a way that is completely private for years. Her feelings for Colin are not performed. They are not announced. They are just there, present and real and occasionally devastating, and she carries them quietly because Cancer does not share the real thing until they feel safe enough.
The Lady Whistledown operation is so Cancer it is almost too obvious. She is the most powerful person in the ton’s information network and nobody knows it is her. She influences everything from a position of complete anonymity. Cancer rules from behind the scenes and Penelope does this literally.
Leo — Anthony Bridgerton
Anthony is Leo and the show spends multiple seasons showing exactly what Leo looks like when it is not operating at its best and then what it looks like when it finally gets there.
The Leo need to be the most important person in every room. The Leo sense of responsibility that becomes control. The way Anthony takes up space with complete certainty that his position in any situation is the correct one. The way he loves fiercely and protectively and sometimes suffocatingly because Leo love does not know how to be small.
His arc from the first season to his own season is a Leo growth story. The move from needing to control everything and everyone around him to understanding that genuine leadership means making space for other people to be fully themselves. The moment he stops trying to manage Kate and starts actually seeing her is the most Leo transformation I have watched on television.
Anthony at his best is the best version of Leo energy. Warm, loyal, willing to fight for the people he loves, using his considerable presence and authority in service of the people he cares about rather than in service of his own ego.
Virgo — Kate Sharma
Kate Sharma is a Virgo and she would absolutely have a system for this.
She arrives in London with a plan. The plan is for Edwina. She has analysed Anthony Bridgerton and found him wanting. She has done the research. She has the evidence. She has a list of reasons why he is not suitable and she is prepared to argue every point.
The Virgo thing about Kate is not just the planning. It is the way she notices everything. She reads Anthony correctly before she has known him for a week. She sees his grief and his fear and his impossible standard for himself and she calls it out with the specific accuracy of someone operating at maximum perceptive capacity.
The Virgo shadow is also very present. She is hard on herself in ways she would never be hard on anyone she loves. She puts Edwina’s happiness above her own without being asked because Virgo defaults to service and sometimes forgets that they are also a person in the equation.
When Kate loves she loves with the same precision and care she brings to everything. She does not do it halfway and she does not perform it. She just does it, carefully and completely, and hopes it is enough.
Libra — Edwina Sharma
Edwina is the Libra of the Bridgerton world and her whole arc is about the Libra experience of wanting harmony so badly that you almost miss what is actually true.
She is graceful and warm and genuinely beloved because she makes everyone around her feel seen. She is the diamond of the season not just because she is beautiful but because she has the Venus-ruled quality of making every interaction feel like it mattered.
The Libra story in her season is about what happens when the story you are living in does not match reality. She chose Anthony. The situation looked right. It was balanced and appropriate and made sense on paper. The feeling was not there and she did not want to see that because seeing it meant disrupting everything.
Her decision at the altar is the most Libra moment in the show. She chooses honesty over harmony. She chooses what is actually right over what looks right. For Libra that choice is enormous and it takes everything she has.
Scorpio — Queen Charlotte
Queen Charlotte is Scorpio and she has been Scorpio since before the show started.
She knows everything. She knows it before other people know it themselves. She has a network of information that operates entirely in the shadows and she uses it with complete precision. Power and information are the same thing to Queen Charlotte and she has more of both than anyone in the ton.
The Scorpio intensity is in every scene she is in. She does not do casual. She does not do surface. Every conversation she has is operating on at least three levels simultaneously and she is tracking all of them.
The depth of her loyalty is also very Scorpio. Her love for King George is one of the most devastating things in the entire Bridgerton universe. She loves completely and without condition and she carries that love through something that would break most people. Scorpio does not love halfway. When they love it is the real thing and it costs them enormously.
Sagittarius — Benedict Bridgerton
Benedict is the Sagittarius Bridgerton and he is having the most fun of all of them.
He does not want what his brothers want. He is not interested in the title or the duty or the expectations that come with being a Bridgerton male of his generation. He wants art and experience and the specific freedom of a life that has not been pre-decided.
The Sagittarius quality in Benedict is the way he moves between worlds. The aristocratic world he was born into and the artistic bohemian world he is drawn toward. He does not fully belong in either and he is mostly fine with that. Sagittarius is most comfortable in the space between categories.
He also falls for people who surprise him. Who are not what he expected. Who show him something about the world or about himself that he did not know before. Sagittarius falls for the person who expands their understanding of what is possible. Not the safe choice. The interesting one.
Capricorn — Lady Danbury
Lady Danbury is Capricorn and she has been running the ton for decades.
She did not inherit her power. She built it. Through intelligence and patience and an understanding of how systems work that most people never develop. She knows the rules well enough to use them and well enough to break them when breaking them serves a purpose.
The Capricorn quality in Lady Danbury is the long game. She is always thinking three moves ahead. Her investments in the Bridgerton and Sharma families are not accidental. She sees potential and she positions herself to support it because she understands that power shared strategically grows stronger.
She is also deeply loyal in the Capricorn way. Privately. Without announcement. The people she has decided to protect are protected and they do not always know how or how much. Capricorn does not need credit for the work. They just need it done.
Aquarius — Eloise Bridgerton
Eloise is Aquarius and the show does not try to hide this at all.
She does not want what everyone else wants. She finds the marriage market actively oppressive and says so loudly at every available opportunity. She has opinions about systems and structures and the way things have always been done that she will share with you whether you asked or not.
The Aquarius quality in Eloise is the specific loneliness of being ahead of your time. She can see clearly that the world she is living in is not the world she should be living in but she has no roadmap for how to get from here to there. She is frustrated and she is right and those two things exist simultaneously without resolving.
Her friendships are the most important relationships in her life and that is very Aquarius. She invests deeply in the people she considers her people. The betrayal of the Penelope friendship hits so hard because Eloise does not give that kind of trust easily. When she does it is real and losing it is devastating.
Pisces — Marina Thompson
Marina is the Pisces of the Bridgerton universe and hers is the most heartbreaking arc in the first season.
She loves someone who is not there. She carries that love through an impossible situation with a quality of devotion that other signs would not sustain. She is not naive about what is happening to her. She sees it clearly. She just cannot stop loving anyway because Pisces does not love in a measured and rational way.
The Pisces quality in Marina is the way she absorbs the circumstances around her without hardening against them. She is adaptable in the way water is adaptable. She finds the shape of whatever container she is placed in. This is survival and it is also the shadow of Pisces. The ability to adapt can become the inability to insist on anything for yourself.
Her story does not have a happy ending in the conventional sense and Pisces stories often do not. What she has is depth. She felt things fully and she loved genuinely and in the Pisces understanding of the world that matters even when it costs everything.
***
What I keep coming back to with this exercise is how well the show actually understands character. The Bridgerton writers might not be thinking in zodiac terms but they are thinking in the same terms the zodiac is trying to describe. How people are built. What they want at the deepest level. What gets in their way. What makes them magnificent when they finally figure it out.
Your sign is not your destiny. But it is your starting point. And watching these characters work through theirs is one of the more satisfying things I have done lately.
Even if I did it dressed in a corset. Metaphorically.
