The Spell for Confidence Before a Big Moment

By Gina, GinaStars

Confidence before something big isn’t always available on demand. You can know rationally that you’re prepared, that you’ve done the work, that you’re capable — and still feel the familiar tightening in the chest, the mind going to worst-case, the sudden conviction that this is the moment everything goes wrong. The logic doesn’t touch the feeling.

This is where ritual becomes genuinely useful. A spell for confidence isn’t about bypassing reality or pretending fear isn’t there. It’s about shifting your energetic state before you walk into the room. It works with the nervous system, with intention, with the body — because confidence isn’t just a thought you have. It’s a state you inhabit.

The spell here is practical. It combines physical anchoring, spoken intention, and a simple energetic clearing that most people can do in ten minutes or less. It doesn’t require materials you don’t have or a belief system you don’t hold. What it requires is genuine engagement — doing it like you mean it rather than going through the motions.

What this spell is actually doing

Before the steps, it’s worth understanding the mechanism, because it makes you a better practitioner of it.

Confidence is a physical state as much as a mental one. Research on body posture and nervous system regulation consistently shows that how you hold your body affects your internal state — not just how you appear to others but how you actually feel. The physical elements of this spell work directly with that connection.

Spoken intention activates something specific in the brain — when you speak something aloud, particularly with deliberate focus and feeling, you’re engaging your auditory processing, your vocal production, and your semantic understanding simultaneously. This is more neurologically activating than thinking the same thought silently. There’s a reason affirmations feel different when said out loud.

The energetic clearing component works with the idea that we carry residue — worry, past failures, others’ doubt, our own doubt — that sits in the energy field and contributes to the pre-event anxiety. Moving it out deliberately creates space.

None of this requires you to believe in magic. It requires you to engage genuinely with your own psychology, your body, and your intention. The results tend to speak for themselves.

What you need

One candle — gold, yellow, or orange if you can choose, white if you can’t. These colors correspond to solar energy, confidence, and personal power. The candle isn’t strictly necessary but it creates a focal point and marks the practice as intentional rather than casual.

Something that represents you at your best. This could be a piece of jewelry you wear when you feel capable, a photograph from a moment of success, a physical object connected to something you’ve already accomplished. If nothing comes to mind, a piece of paper with a single word written on it — your name, or the word “capable” or “ready” — works fine.

A mirror, if possible. Large enough to see your face clearly.

Optional: a few drops of essential oil — rosemary for mental clarity and confidence, orange for energy and optimism, frankincense for spiritual grounding and power. Not required but useful if you have them.

That’s it. The simplicity is intentional. Complexity in ritual often becomes a distraction from the internal work that actually matters.

The spell itself

Do this within an hour of the big moment if possible, or the morning of if it’s later in the day.

Light the candle. Sit or stand in front of the mirror. Take three slow, full breaths — exhale longer than you inhale. This is the nervous system regulation piece, and it’s not optional. If you rush past the breathing, you’re doing the surface version.

Hold the object that represents you at your best. Close your eyes and spend sixty seconds — a full minute, don’t rush it — remembering a moment when you were genuinely confident. Not performing confidence. Actually feeling it. Find the specific memory. What were you wearing. What did the room feel like. What was the sensation in your body when you knew you had this.

Open your eyes and look at yourself in the mirror. Say aloud, three times, with the memory of that confident state still in your body:

“I have done hard things. I am ready. I walk in with everything I need.”

Use your own words if these don’t fit. What matters is that the words are true and specific to you. Don’t use words you don’t believe. Find the version of this statement that you can say and mean.

The words work when they match a felt state. If you’re saying them while feeling nothing, go back to the memory and stay there longer before speaking.

After the third repetition, sit quietly for a moment with the candle burning. Let the state settle. If doubt comes up, don’t fight it — acknowledge it and return your attention to the felt sense of confidence you located in the memory.

Extinguish the candle with intention. The practice is complete.

Variations for different situations

For job interviews or presentations: add the element of speaking your preparation aloud. Before the mirror work, say clearly what you know, what you’ve done, what you bring. This is grounding through evidence rather than pure feeling, and it pairs well with the energetic work.

For creative performances, auditions, or anything where you need to be fully present rather than strategic: skip the “speaking your preparation” step. The analytical mind is less useful here. Focus entirely on the body memory of past flow states and use the intention to invite that quality of presence rather than competence.

For social situations where anxiety is the main issue: the essential oil rosemary on the pulse points (wrists, behind ears) before you walk in carries the energetic intention into the room with you. Touching those points discreetly during the event serves as an anchor — a physical reminder of the state you set before you arrived.

For repeated use: the spell gets more effective each time you do it, because you build a stronger association between the practice and the confident state. The first time requires more effort. By the fifth or sixth time, the ritual itself begins to trigger the state.

What doesn’t work: doing this casually, while distracted, in a hurry. The practice is short but it needs your full attention for the duration. If you can’t give it that, wait until you can.
