The Science Behind Why Grabovoi Codes Work — Or Do They?

I want to be upfront about something before I get into this: Grabovoi codes are one of the more contested things in the spiritual community, and I don’t think the honest answer to whether they work is a simple yes or no. So I’m going to give you the actual picture — where they come from, what people claim about them, what might genuinely explain results, and what I personally think.

Grigori Grabovoi is a Russian mathematician and esoteric figure who developed a system he calls ‘Radionic Numerology’ or the ‘Restoration of the Human Organism through Concentration on Numbers.’ He claims, among other things, to have resurrected the dead — a claim for which he was convicted of fraud in Russia in 2008 after charging grieving parents of Beslan school siege victims for the service. That’s important context and I’m not going to skip past it.

And yet, his number sequences have spread globally and millions of people use them and report results. That tension is worth sitting with rather than resolving too quickly in either direction.

What Grabovoi codes actually are

Grabovoi’s system assigns specific number sequences to specific desired outcomes. The codes most commonly shared online include sequences like 520 741 8 (for love), 318 798 (for money), 8 17 4 19 74 (for health), and hundreds of others covering everything from improving eyesight to manifesting a specific person.

The claimed mechanism is that these numbers carry specific vibrational frequencies that interact with the body’s energy field and with what Grabovoi calls the ‘informational field of the universe.’ By focusing on the numbers — writing them on your wrist, placing them on water you drink, meditating on them — you’re supposed to align your energy with the outcome the code represents.

This is not a peer-reviewed scientific claim. There is no published research demonstrating that specific number sequences carry distinct vibrational properties that produce measurable physical effects. Anyone telling you there is such research is either misinformed or misrepresenting something.

Then why do people report results?

Here’s where it gets genuinely interesting. A lot of people do report results from using Grabovoi codes. Not everyone, not consistently, but enough that the reports aren’t just noise.

There are a few explanations worth taking seriously.

The most solid one is the placebo effect combined with focused attention. This sounds dismissive but it isn’t — the placebo effect is real and well-documented, and focused attention is one of the most powerful factors in any manifestation or intentional practice. When you write a Grabovoi code on your wrist every morning for a month while thinking about what you want, you’re doing something that has a lot in common with affirmation practice, visualization, and intention-setting. Any of those things, done consistently, genuinely shifts behavior and attention in ways that affect outcomes.

The second explanation involves priming and the reticular activating system. Your brain’s RAS is the mechanism that filters what you notice out of the overwhelming amount of information available at any moment. When you focus on something — whether through a code, an affirmation, a vision board, or anything else — your RAS starts filtering for it. You notice opportunities you’d have missed before. You pick up on relevant information that was always there. This looks like manifestation from the outside, but has a fairly clear neurological mechanism.

The third explanation, which I hold more loosely, is that number sequences genuinely carry some form of energetic resonance that science hasn’t adequately studied. I’m not willing to fully dismiss this, partly because there’s a long tradition across many cultures of numbers having specific significance beyond their mathematical function, and partly because ‘we don’t have a mechanism for it’ is not the same as ‘it doesn’t work.’ Our current scientific tools are better at some things than others.

The honest answer is: we don’t fully know why some people experience results. But ‘don’t fully know’ isn’t the same as ‘they don’t work.’

The Grabovoi fraud conviction and why it matters

I mentioned his 2008 fraud conviction and I want to say more about it because I think it matters ethically.

Grabovoi charged parents of children killed in the Beslan school massacre — one of the worst terrorist attacks in Russian history — money to resurrect their children. He accepted payment. The children did not return. He was convicted and served time in prison.

This tells you something specific about Grabovoi as a person, and I think it should shape how you engage with his work. Using his number sequences as a focusing tool for manifestation practice is a different thing from treating him as a spiritual authority or purchasing his services. The first might genuinely be useful to you. The second is something I can’t recommend.

The codes themselves have been detached from him in most of the popular usage online — most people sharing them on TikTok have no idea who he is or what he did. That detachment is probably fine in practical terms. But it’s worth knowing the origin.

How to use them if you want to try

If you want to experiment with Grabovoi codes, here’s what I’d suggest based on what seems to actually produce results for people.

Treat them as a focusing tool, not a magic shortcut. The people who report the best results are using the codes as a daily anchor for their intention — writing the code, thinking about what they want, and then going about their day in alignment with that intention. The code is the reminder and the focus point. The intention and the aligned action are the actual mechanism.

Be consistent. A code written once with half your attention will do roughly nothing. A code you engage with daily for thirty days, with genuine focus each time, is something different. Consistency is the variable that matters most.

Don’t use them as a substitute for action. ‘I wrote the money code on my wrist so now I can wait for money to appear’ is a recipe for disappointment. ‘I wrote the money code on my wrist every morning while thinking clearly about the financial situation I want to create, and that clarity helped me notice and act on an opportunity I’d been vaguely aware of but not pursuing’ is how the results people describe actually seem to work.

And stay curious rather than certain. The honest position on Grabovoi codes is ‘possibly useful, origin problematic, mechanism unclear.’ That’s a fine position from which to experiment.

My actual opinion

I think Grabovoi codes can work as a focusing tool in the same way that any consistent intentional practice can work. The numbers themselves probably aren’t carrying unique vibrational signatures. But the act of engaging with them regularly, with attention and intention, does something real.

I also think the popularity of Grabovoi codes on social media is partly because they’re easy to share and feel specific in a way that general manifestation advice doesn’t. ‘Write this specific number on your wrist’ is more actionable than ‘raise your vibration.’ Whether the specificity of the number is what matters, or just the specificity of the practice, I genuinely don’t know.

Use them if they help you stay focused and intentional. Question anything that makes extreme claims about what they can do. And if someone is trying to sell you access to a code or a system, be appropriately skeptical about what you’re actually buying.

A tool that helps you focus your intention is useful regardless of its origin story. Know the origin story anyway.
