Disney has been writing astrology charts since 1937. They just didn’t call it that.
Every princess in the Disney canon carries a specific energetic signature — a combination of values, instincts, wounds, and ways of loving that maps almost perfectly onto a zodiac archetype. This is not a stretch. These characters were built from mythology, folklore, and deep human archetypes. The same archetypes that astrology has been tracking for thousands of years.
So here they are. All twelve signs, matched to the princess who actually lives their energy — not just superficially, but at the level of how they move through the world, what they want, what they’re afraid of, and what they do when the story gets hard.
Find yours. Then tag someone and tell them theirs. Some of them will not be pleased.
Aries ♈ — Merida
Merida does not wait. This is the whole character. She sees what she wants, she picks up the bow, and she shoots before anyone has finished explaining why she shouldn’t. The consequences come later. The apologies come later. The lesson — that her impulsivity has costs — comes later. But the action comes first, always.
This is Aries. Not recklessness for its own sake, but the specific kind of courage that doesn’t require permission or consensus before moving. Merida’s entire arc is about learning that leading with fire has to include learning to love the people caught in it. That is also Aries’s entire arc.
Merida is not brave despite the consequences. She simply processes consequences after the fact. This is Aries to its bones.
What makes her specifically Aries rather than just ‘impulsive’: she is the one who goes first. The one who makes things happen by refusing to wait for things to happen to her. Every other princess in this list has a story where the world does something to them. Merida is the one who does something to the world.
Taurus ♉ — Belle
Belle wants the library. That is the whole tell. Not the prince, not the adventure — the library. The warm cup of tea. The afternoon spent reading without anyone demanding she be somewhere else. Belle’s deepest desire is sensory and intellectual comfort, and she will absolutely not compromise on it for the sake of being liked.
Gaston is handsome and the town loves him. Belle is not interested. Not because she is contrary but because Gaston does not see her. Taurus does not accept a version of love that does not involve being genuinely known. The compromise version, the convenient version, the socially approved version — none of these interest Taurus at all.
Belle chose the beast specifically because the beast had a library and actually talked to her. This is Taurus making a very deliberate, very sensory, very correct decision.
The stubbornness is there too. Belle stays in the castle. She adapts to circumstances she did not choose. She finds the beauty in what is in front of her rather than mourning what isn’t. That capacity — to settle into a difficult situation and make it livable through sheer sensory attention — is one of Taurus’s most underrated qualities.
Gemini ♊ — Rapunzel
Rapunzel has been in a tower for eighteen years and she has filled it with seventeen hobbies. Painting the ceiling. Baking. Reading. Making candles. Playing guitar. Doing ventriloquism. This is not what a sad person does. This is what a Gemini does with a small space and too much time.
The dual nature shows up in the split between the Rapunzel who spent years telling herself the tower was fine and the Rapunzel who, the moment she got outside, came alive in a way that surprised even her. Gemini carries two versions of themselves simultaneously — the adapted version that fits the environment and the real version that surfaces when the environment finally changes.
Rapunzel spent eighteen years making herself at home in a place she didn’t belong. The day she left, she became a completely different person. Geminis know this feeling exactly.
The other Gemini tell: she talks constantly. To Pascal, to herself, to Flynn Rider within minutes of meeting him. The communication is not social anxiety — it is how she processes. She thinks out loud. She changes her mind mid-sentence. She is six different moods in the first musical number. Gemini.
Cancer ♋ — Cinderella
Cinderella is the one who stays. When everyone else is cruel, she remains kind. When the circumstances are designed to break her, she maintains grace. This is not weakness — it is the specific Cancer capacity to hold enormous emotional weight without externalizing it as aggression.
Her relationship with the mice, the birds, the animals she tends — that is Cancer in its purest form. The instinct to nurture whatever is in her environment, to make a home out of whatever space she is given, to love what is in front of her even when what is in front of her is very difficult.
Cinderella did not endure the stepfamily out of passivity. She endured them because leaving felt like abandoning the only home she had left. Cancer understands this completely.
What makes her Cancer rather than just ‘kind’: she is defined by her memory of love. Her father, her mother, what home felt like before it was taken. Cancer is always, at some level, oriented toward that memory — trying to recreate the safety of early love in whatever circumstances are currently available.
Leo ♌ — Moana
The ocean chose Moana. Not her father, not the chief before him, not any of the people who had been trying to fulfill the same destiny for generations. The ocean looked at everyone and it chose her. Moana’s entire story is about growing into the understanding that she was chosen because of what she actually is — not despite it, not in spite of the parts of her that refuse to stay small, but because of all of it.
Leo is the sign of the sun. Moana literally sails toward the sun. She restores the heart of Te Fiti — the heart of the earth itself. The scale of Leo’s sense of purpose is not ego. It is the specific feeling of having something to do that only they can do, and the terrible weight of that.
Moana does not lead because she was told to. She leads because something in the world specifically needed what she had and she could not pretend otherwise. This is Leo when it is operating at full power.
The vanity criticism of Leo always misses this. Moana is not interested in being seen for its own sake. She is interested in being seen accurately — in having the actual size of her calling acknowledged by the people who keep trying to make her smaller.
Virgo ♍ — Snow White
Snow White walks into a stranger’s house and cleans it. This is not a comment on gender roles. This is the Virgo instinct: see what needs doing, do it, do it well, do it without being asked. The seven dwarfs come home to a house that has been made better and they know immediately that someone who cares about order was here.
Her relationship with the forest animals is also Virgo — she speaks to them in a language of specific attention, she knows what each one needs, she is oriented toward the health and wellbeing of whatever living things are around her. Virgo is the sign of the healer. Snow White makes everything she touches function better.
Snow White did not clean the dwarfs’ house to be liked. She cleaned it because it needed cleaning and she was there and she could. Virgo does not understand any other reason.
The naivety that gets her into trouble is the shadow side of Virgo’s trust in systems. She expects the world to operate logically — good people are kind, the Queen is a queen, apples are apples. When the system is corrupted, Virgo’s trust in it becomes a vulnerability. That is accurate too.
Libra ♎ — Aurora / Sleeping Beauty
Aurora is the controversial one on this list. She doesn’t do much in her own story — she sleeps through the climax, she is rescued, she wakes up. On the surface this looks like the opposite of a Libra placement.
But look at what Aurora actually is: the center of a war between good and evil, beauty and darkness, love and power, fought entirely over her. Libra is the sign of the scales. The sign around which balance is constantly being negotiated. Aurora is not passive — she is the axis. Everything in the story is oriented toward her equilibrium.
Aurora’s power is not action. It is presence. The entire kingdom organized itself around her return to consciousness. That is Libra energy — the center of every relational field, whether they are awake to it or not.
The other Libra tell: she is genuinely beautiful in a way that the story treats as morally significant. Libra rules beauty — not as vanity but as harmony, as the specific quality of things being in right relationship to each other. Aurora’s beauty is the story’s visual language for the restoration of balance.
Scorpio ♏ — Jasmine
Jasmine sees through everything. The disguise, the performance, the story Aladdin is telling her — she knows. She knows before she has proof. She knows in the specific way that Scorpio always knows: not through evidence but through the read she did on him the moment he walked in, which told her everything she needed to know and which she filed away and waited to confirm.
She refuses to be a prize. This is the line. Not just that she wants to choose her own husband — she refuses the entire framing that she is something to be won. Scorpio does not accept other people’s definitions of their worth. Full stop. The Scorpio response to being reduced is not accommodation. It is a very quiet, very clear refusal.
Jasmine knew Aladdin was lying from the second conversation. She let it play out because she was more interested in who he actually was than in catching him. This is Scorpio at its most precise.
The magnetism is there too. Jasmine does not try to be the most compelling person in the room. She simply is, because her attention is fully present and that quality — the sense that she is actually seeing you — is more magnetic than anything performed. Scorpio does not need to try. The energy does the work.
Sagittarius ♐ — Pocahontas
Pocahontas runs toward the horizon. Not away from anything — toward. The canoe at the top of the waterfall, the wind in the trees, the colors of the wind. She is oriented perpetually toward the next thing that is bigger than the current thing, the wider view, the answer that is somewhere ahead of where she is standing.
The philosophy is Sagittarius too. Pocahontas does not just want adventure — she wants to understand. She wants to know why the river sings, what the earth is saying, what is on the other side of the mountain not as a tourist but as someone trying to know the truth. Sagittarius is the seeker. The one who cannot accept a small answer to a large question.
Pocahontas asks the river what’s around the riverbend because she genuinely cannot be at peace without knowing. This is not curiosity. It is Sagittarius’s philosophical compulsion.
The commitment issue shows up as the ending. She lets John Smith go. Not because she doesn’t love him — she does — but because something larger than the relationship is calling her and she cannot pretend otherwise. Sagittarius will always choose the horizon when forced to choose.
Capricorn ♑ — Tiana
Tiana works two jobs. She saves every dollar. She has a plan that she built from her father’s dream and her own determination and she will not deviate from it regardless of what the universe throws at her — including being turned into a frog. The frog situation does not derail Tiana. It inconveniences her.
This is Capricorn. Not the ambition for its own sake, but the specific relationship with work as the most reliable path to a life that cannot be taken away. Tiana’s father taught her that a dream was not enough without the hard work. She took this literally and never stopped. The restaurant is not just a goal. It is a structure against uncertainty, built one saved dollar at a time.
Tiana does not wish upon stars. She works until the stars have no choice but to align. This is Saturn energy in its most complete expression.
What makes her Capricorn rather than just ‘hardworking’: she is building something that outlasts her. The restaurant is not for comfort or pleasure — it is a legacy. Her father’s legacy, her own legacy, something that will still be standing when she is gone. Capricorn builds to last.
Aquarius ♒ — Elsa
Elsa’s power is too much for the world she was born into. Not because the power is bad — it is extraordinary, it is beautiful, it creates things no one has ever seen before. But the world she was born into could not hold it, and the attempt to contain it cost her most of her childhood and nearly her sister’s life.
This is Aquarius. The specific experience of having a nature that the environment cannot accommodate, and the choice that creates: hide it and survive in the environment you were given, or become fully what you are and lose the belonging you needed. Elsa chooses isolation. Most Aquarians choose some version of this, for the same reason — the full expression of who they are has historically made other people uncomfortable.
Elsa did not build an ice palace because she wanted to be alone. She built it because she had never been allowed to be fully herself anywhere else. This is the Aquarius wound exactly.
Let It Go is an Aquarius anthem not because of the lyrics about freedom, but because of what it actually is: a person discovering for the first time what they can do when they stop apologizing for what they are. The palace is not a retreat. It is the first honest architecture of her actual self.
Pisces ♓ — Ariel
Ariel lives between two worlds and belongs completely to neither. This is the defining experience of Pisces — the feeling of existing at the boundary of the material and the something-else, not quite at home in either place, drawn toward the world beyond the one you were born into.
She gives up her voice for legs. This is the Pisces wound made literal: the sacrifice of the truest form of self-expression in the hope of being seen by someone who cannot access her natural world. Pisces loves without limits and without the requirement that love be logical. The love for Eric is not rational. Ariel does not require it to be.
Ariel did not give up her voice because she was naive. She gave it up because the longing was bigger than the fear. Pisces has always been willing to pay that price.
What makes her Pisces rather than just ‘romantic’: she was already collected, already oriented toward the human world, already longing for something beyond her environment before Eric arrived. He is not the cause of the longing. He is the direction it found. Pisces is always looking for something beyond the current world. The mermaid was doing this from the first scene.
The One Nobody Expected
The most debated one on this list will be Libra-Aurora. I know. She is an easy target for the ‘she does nothing’ criticism. But I want to push back on that framing.
The princesses who do the most in their stories — Merida, Moana, Tiana, Jasmine — are doing things the world around them resists. They are acting against gravity. Aurora is different: she is the center of gravity. Everything the story does is in service of her restoration to herself. That is not passivity. That is a different kind of power, and it is specifically the kind Libra holds.
The sign of the scales is not about action. It is about being the axis around which things balance. If you are a Libra who has spent your life feeling like you are not doing enough because you are not visibly fighting — this might be worth sitting with. Sometimes the most important thing in the room is the thing everything else is organizing itself around. You do not have to swing the sword to be the reason for the battle.
